For many people, especially those who are learning a language (children, whose native tongue is not English and those who suffer from dyslexia), spelling a word correctly can be difficult. The software was developed by Graham Lawrence, as an IBM employee who worked in the IBM UK Laboratories at Hursley until he retired in 2004. Graham wrote several papers relating to this technology whilst working in the IBM Scientific Centre, Winchester, England during the mid-eighties, studying speech synthesis.
