COUNTDOWN Centenary week, the biggest event of our 100 year history,
is rapidly approaching. Now a mere thirteen weeks away, the results of
three years' work by the Centenary Committee are beginning to show, You
will be extremely sorry if you miss these events, you won't be here in
2091! Read on carefully, we cannot be held responsible for tears! The clubhouse (first floor) will be closed all week, with all usual
facilities available in the specially commissioned marquee to the right
of the first tee. Overflow car parking (except for the dinner dance) will
be in the field opposite the car park entrance. The evening barbeque on Saturday 31st August will include entertainment
from a disco and an Irish band. Professional caterers have been retained
to make this no ordinary barbecue. Tickets will shortly be available to
non 200 club members at £7.00 each. The Corhampton Classic Pro-Am is one of the top events on the PGA
South Region's calendar this year. Competitors must prequalify at either
Farnham or West Kent in August, then make the 36 hole cut on Tuesday before
playing in the Wednesday Pro-Am. Thus the winner will be the man who performs
best over 54 holes and two days, a proper golf tournament! Sponsors are still
required to give the event the backing it deserves. 200 Club members have until 14th June to return their acceptance
slips for dinner-dance and barbecue tickets. After this date tickets for
these events will be available on general sale only. Dinner-dance (Centenary Ball): Tickets will be available on, general
sale at £30 per head, with each double ticket holder receiving a bottle
of wine. The evening's main speaker will be Lesley Crowther of television
fame, and the menu includes melon, roast poussin, sweets, cheeseboard,
fruit and coffee. Cars left in the car park and on the 1st and 2nd fairways after the
dinner dance must be removed by 11am the following morning to enable final
preparations for the cricket to be made. Cars remaining after this time
will be forcibly removed! There will be no golf on Sunday 8th September because of the cricket
match. Play will be from 2pm to 6.30pm with leading celebrities from
the Lords' Taverners taking on a select Corhampton eleven. Lunch will
be available beforehand and other fun events will make this a great day
out for the whole family. Bring them all along! A list will shortly be posted in the clubhouse for all who wish
to be considered for the Corhampton eleven. COMPETITION!There has never been a better time to take photographs at Corhampton Golf Club. A new professional, head greenkeeper (soon), course extension and most of all centenary week present some super photographic opportunities. A £50 voucher, kindly donated by City Photographic, is on offer
for the best print presented to The Secretary before this year's
AGM, when the winner will be announced. Photographic excellence isn't the
issue; we're looking for the most apt photograph to show Corhampton Golf
Club 1991. Entry is free; simply hand your photographs to Peter Taylor with name of the person who took it, and the date it was taken, on the back. Good Luck! |
